Modified Styrene Acrylic Emulsion RG-B20016 Instructions
Production Process:
If high-speed equipment (such as high-speed disperser) is used to produce coatings, it is recommended to add enough dispersants (such as dispersant WS-25B, etc.) and wetting agents to pre-disperse pigments and fillers in an alkaline medium. When using a low-speed mixer, especially when producing high-viscosity products (such as embossing paint and leveling putty), the latex and additives should be placed in the mixing vessel before adding pigments and fillers.
This product has good compatibility and bonding ability of pigments and fillers. The use of pigments is limited to those that are difficult to wet such as carbon black, calcium sulfate and zinc oxide, the latter two of which can cause a significant increase in viscosity. The amount of pigment and filler added can vary widely, depending on the application (interior or exterior), performance requirements (such as gloss, elongation, wet scrub resistance), substrate type, and use The amount of binder (oil absorption rate) of pigments and fillers, etc.
Latex paints based on this product usually require the addition of thickeners. Suitable thickeners are medium or high viscosity cellulose ethers, polyacrylics, polyurethanes or bentonites, and polysaccharide thickeners. Different choices depend on the different leveling requirements or thixotropy requirements of different products.
A small amount of film-forming aid should be added to the formulation to ensure smooth film formation below 20°C. Suitable film-forming aids include glycol ethers or their acetates, solvent oils containing aromatic groups, etc., which can be used alone or in combination. Usually, the highest dosage of coalescent can account for about 2% of the total coating. Lower alcohols and glycols, not suitable for use as coalescents, but can improve frost resistance and wet edge properties of formulated coatings. Since local flocculation may occur, it is not advisable to add high concentrations of solvent and thickener directly to the latex.
Mixing this product with some softer latex can give better elongation to the coating.
The final product can be tinted with colorants or pre-made dark paints. Compatibility and storage stability tests should be performed as coloration may cause water separation and pigment flocculation. Nonionic surfactants can also be added to solve such problems. Adding a small amount of thickener (such as thickener RG-HB302) can improve the storage stability of high pigment and filler content interior latex paint produced using extremely hard water, and also make the equipment easier to clean.
Like other fine particle size latexes, this product has a tendency to foam. Therefore, it is necessary to add antifoaming agent in the proportion recommended by the manufacturer (usually 0.3-1%), and it should be added in advance.

Test for effectiveness.
Although microbiological measures have been taken for this product, it is still necessary to add preservatives to the finished product to ensure long-term storage stability, and the compatibility and effectiveness of preservatives should be pre-tested.
Since the production and use process is affected by many factors (such as the compatibility of the ingredients, the mixing process and the adhesion requirements to different substrates), and it is impossible for us to fully cover these factors in our own experiments, the manufacturer has It is necessary to develop coating products based on this product based on self-testing. The test shall include checking the stability of the product viscosity at 50°C.
